FI-KVT W12.4 When modern arts and old traditions meet 3.6. – 13.6.2026

Number of volunteers: 10
Description: The volunteer camp combines art and culture themes and introduction to Finnish countryside landscapes and traditions. Volunteers will be assisting artists and local art community in bringing up a street art and contemporary art exhibition as well as cleaning and upkeeping summery tourist spots. During the stay the volunteers are also introduced to innovative small scale forest potato farming.
Location: Kärsämäki, Northern Ostrobothnia, distance to Oulu around 125 km
Type of work: Work includes prepping and priming walls for outdoor street art and indoor art exhibition as well as assisting the upkeep of local cultural travel spots by cleaning and farmyard-type garden work and clearance. When preparing the street arts and mural areas, the volunteers can assist the local artists in preparation work.
Study theme: Arts, culture and passed-on traditions.
Accommodation: Joint accommodation and shared bathroom/shower premises. The residential house and also some work spots in the volunteer project have staircases and are not easily accessible with wheelchairs or other mobility aides. Keep in mind that during early summertime the temperatures can still be somewhat cool and rainy in Finland, so sweatshirts and sweatpants are suitable work clothes, and trainers/hiking shoes a good option for work shoes. Volunteers will participate in cooking their own food.
Free time possibilities: It is possible to use sauna and visit a local farm. Also trips to the nearby beaches or small hiking trips can be arranged depending on schedules and weather. In addition, some program related to Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture takes place on the Pyhäjoki river during that time.
Requirements: The camp will be confirmed at the latest 3 weeks before the starting date. Please book your travel tickets only after the camp is confirmed, or check that you have refundable tickets.

FI-KVT W4.4 Food Not Bombs 22.6. – 3.7.2026

Number of volunteers: 12
Description: Food Not Bombs is an international campaign that works in hundreds of cities around the world to inspire the public to participate in changing and educating society by helping in a concrete way. The idea of the campaign is to focus our resources on solving problems like hunger, homelessness and poverty while seeking an end to war, continuous rearmament and the destruction of the environment. In practice, this is done by giving out vegan meals in public places to anyone in need. The campaign is also closely connected to food waste issues, and much of the cooking is done with donated food.
Location: Helsinki, the capital city of Finland, urban location
Type of work: During the camp, volunteers will be organizing meal-sharing events around Helsinki. The volunteers’ tasks include cooking, bringing the food to the event location, giving it out during the event, and cleaning up afterwards. Volunteers are also welcome to participate in announcing the meal-sharing events and collecting food donations. No special skills are needed.
Study theme: There will be discussions on the history and ideology of the Food Not Bombs movement, nonviolence, antimilitarism and social problems in Finland.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay at the Peace Station in Helsinki where many peace organisations reside. The accommodation is simple. A sleeping bag is required as volunteers will sleep on mattresses in a shared space. There are bathrooms, a kitchen, a shower and a sauna. The accommodation facilities and the nature of the work might be challenging for a person with physical disabilities, but their participation is warmly welcome. Families can apply to the camp if the lack of privacy is not a problem. The food will be mainly the same vegan food that is offered in the events around the city.

Requirements: A free-formatted motivation letter is required. Volunteers should express why they want to participate in the camp and how they could benefit from it. Please include your thoughts about antimilitarism, nonviolence and peaceful conflict resolution, as volunteers should be interested in these themes.

FI-KVT W9.2 Gardening and connecting across social borders 5.7. – 18.7.2026

Number of volunteers: 10
Description: The Äijälä community aims to support its clients in everyday life and life management. The community works with organic gardening and it has a charming old farmhouse that has been renovated to host disabled people for daytime activities and during the holidays. Äijälä also offers supportive work activities for long-term unemployed people and preserves traditional culture and working methods. Äijälä has been hosting KVT workcamps since 1980.
Location: Jyskä, near Jyväskylä city in Central Finland
Type of work: Mainly physical gardening with local community workers, volunteers and local assisted camp participants. Also, clearing the new garden plot area of the community farmhouse. The farm grows root vegetables, berries and other vegetables. During the camp, the volunteers will spend activity time together with local camp participants. The Äijälä community aims to offer a tranquil environment for its visitors, which aligns with the work of the camp. This means that some of the camp days might be a bit slower in pace.
Study theme: Equal and communal working and living, diversity of people and backgrounds.
Accommodation: In shared rooms (women and men separately), in a 200-year-old wooden farmhouse, which is the main building of the farm. Beds, bed linen and pillows will be provided to the volunteers. Washing laundry is possible on-site. Volunteers with physical disabilities are also warmly welcome, but should be aware that moving around the house or garden may require some assistance (there are, e.g. doorsteps, sand & grass in the garden). Mealtimes are shared with local camp participants in a theme of shared, equal community meals.
Free time possibilities: The nearest big city, Jyväskylä, can be reached by public transport and visited for sightseeing during the free time.

FI-KVT W10.2 Protection and rewilding of natural landscapes 6.8. – 17.8.2026

Number of volunteers: 14
Description: The camp will focus on environmental restoration and maintenance of hand-built dams in swamp/wetland areas in Central Finland, as well as on maintenance of meadows, using traditional tools such as a scythe. The camp organiser, Central Finland District of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation is part of the oldest environmental association in Finland with large knowledge of nature protection and Finnish forestry history and development.
Location: Keuruu and its surrounding nature sites in Central Finland. Wetland areas/swamps are located in the area of Pihlajavesi (transfer by shared camp car during worktimes).
Type of work: Rewilding and maintenance of hand-made dams/barrages in swamp areas, as well as mowing/grass cutting by hand in meadow areas. All areas of work are first fully taught to volunteers and constantly supervised by camp organiser representatives. In addition, a climate-themed art workshop will be held during the camp.
Study theme: Natural biodiversity and nature protection locally. Additional study themes possible during the camptime.
Accommodation: Joint accommodation in the Keuruu Ecovillage area. Vegetarian/vegan-based meals during the camp time. Volunteers will either need to bring their own bedsheets (pillowcase, sheet or mummy linen, duvet/quilt cover) OR they can rent a set from Ecovillage housing society for the price of 5 €/visit. Volunteers will participate in cooking their own food.
Free time possibilities: In the Ecovillage there are lots of free time opportunities, such as swimming and playing sports.

Requirements: The camp will consist of physical work and therefore, good basic health (especially in the back and leg areas) is needed from the participants. Also, volunteers should prepare with their own outdoor clothing that protects arms and legs, outdoor shoes and rubber boots (swamp areas are wet, and sudden deep spots are possible). In addition, good items to bring along are hats and/or scarves, mosquito repellent and/or mosquito net hats for head protection.

FI-KVT W11.2 Sustainable gardening and renovations in a heritage landscape 9.8. – 19.8.2026

Number of volunteers: 10
Description: Experience Finnish lakeside country life, while taking part in everyday communal housekeeping and renovation projects, and getting to know small-scale gardening. Community thinking and working are the key elements of this camp, which is set at the old/former vicarage site by a lake, and also produces organic food products (herbs and berries). Please note that due to the landscape and the accommodation building’s old architecture, this camp is not easily accessible.
Location: Teisko village, Pirkanmaa region, around 30 km out of the cenral city area of Tampere
Type of work: Gardening, easy house renovations such as small building and painting tasks, berry picking and the natural processing of the berries and herbs by hand. All the work is designed and carried out as sustainably as possible, respecting the old vicarage building and its surrounding garden and lakeside nature.
Study theme: The particular study themes on this volunteer camp are sustainable communal gardening, small renovations and bases of shared communal decision-making.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay at the old vicarage building in shared rooms in smaller groups. The accommodation is upstairs and the stairway is not suitable for people with mobility restrictions. Beds, bed linen and pillows will be provided to the volunteers. Showers and toilets are shared. The participants will make their own meals. Vegetarian/vegan-based menu.
Free time possibilities: Volunteers have the opportunity to play garden games, swim, visit nearby nature parks and tennis/badminton fields, or try rowing as a team using the traditional church boat.

Requirements: Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor work and therefore have clothing that can withstand dirt and get wet. Also, rubber boots and a raincoat are recommended to bring along due to the quickly changing summer weather.

FI-KVT W13.5 Switching the seasons, cleaning the campsite 14.8. – 22.8.2026

Description: Finnish summer cottage experience and a great camp for first-timers! The Vähäsilta camp center is in an idyllic location on the shores of a lake, just a half-hour drive from the city center of Tampere, one of Finland’s largest and most vibrant cities. In this workcamp, volunteers will participate in the maintenance of the camp center. The owner of the center, TampereMissio, offers the center free of charge to non-profit organizations in the region, which means that the center is in high use throughout the summer. This workcamp transfers the campsite from the busy summer season towards the fall use.
Location: Kämmenniemi, Pirkanmaa region, the camp location is in the countryside
Type of work: The tasks of volunteers are related to the maintenance of the property, including window cleaning, mowing the lawns, chopping firewood, cleaning and pruning bushes. The tasks do not require special skills. The camp hosts will provide guidance and take care of work safety.
Study theme: TampereMissio is a non-profit social work organization. Volunteers will learn about the organization’s activities. It is also possible to organize introductions to TampereMissio’s various activities in Tampere.
Accommodation: The accommodation is in shared rooms with women and men sleeping separately. Volunteers need to bring their own bedsheets (pillowcase, duvet cover and sheet or mummy linen), but beds, pillows and mattresses are provided in the housing building(s). Separate shower times can be arranged for male and female volunteers. Vähäsilta has a large, two-story, more than 100-year-old main building. On the ground floor, there are dining rooms, a large kitchen and water toilets. The ground floor of the main building is accessible. The accommodation space is on the upper floor, accessible via a staircase. Volunteers will participate in cooking their own food.
Free time possibilities: In the evenings, there is a possibility to go to the sauna. There is a swimming opportunity in the lake from the pier. There is also a rowboat and life vests.

Requirements: Since the accommodation space is not accessible, the workcamp can’t host people with disabilities, such as those with reduced mobility.
