TYÖLEIRIT SUOMESSA
KVT järjestää Suomessa yhteistyökumppaneidensa kanssa vuosittain 15-20 kansainvälistä työleiriä. Leireistä valtaosa on kesällä, mutta mikään ei estä järjestämästä ikimuistoista talvileiriä! Tehtävän työn tulee olla yleishyödyllistä; työleiriä ei voi järjestää yhden ihmisen edun tai kaupallisten tavoitteiden edistämiseksi. Vapaaehtoisilla ei myöskään voi korvata palkattua työvoimaa. Leirisuunnittelu kannattaa aloittaa hyvissä ajoin, mieluiten jo leiriä edeltävänä syksynä. Jos haluat olla mukana Suomen leirien valmistelussa muutenkin kuin leiri-isäntänä tai leirinvetäjänä, olet erittäin tervetullut mukaan KVT:n leirikoordinaatioryhmän eli koordiksen toimintaan! Työleirin koodista näkyy missä maassa leiri järjestetään ja mikä on sen teema. Useimmiten teema kuvaa leiri-isännän toimintaa ja tavoitteita, ei välttämättä itse työtä. SCI:n työleireillä ensimmäinen numero kertoo leirin teeman: esimerkiksi FI-SCI-4.1 tarkoittaa työleirin olevan Suomessa teemanaan vammaistyö. Jälkimmäinen numero puolestaan viittaa leirin järjestyslukuun saman teeman sisällä.

FI-KVT 1.01 WORLD VILLAGE FESTIVAL, Helsinki 19/05 – 01/06 10 vols EDU, FEST, PEACE
World village is an annual festival which supports multiculturalism, international solidarity and development co-operation through music and exhibitions.
The event is organized by KEPA (Service Centre for Development Cooperation in Finland).
W: Firstly, vols will work for three days in a reception centre for refugees and asylum seekers. Vols will take part in cleaning and maintenance work at the centre and its surroundings in co-operation with the inhabitants. After that vols will help to set up the festival area including building and taking down tents, setting up stalls, decorating the festival area, etc.
A: Vols will probably stay on a small island in an old house which is maintained by a small ecological association. The accommodation is simple, there's no running water or showers. Vols can use a sauna building for washing. It is not possible to accept disabled or participants with children.
FI-KVT 2.01 ESTELLE, Turku 31/05 – 20/06 8 vols ENVI, RENO, MANU Estelle is steel-hulled 53-metre ship and is used for transporting cargo with wind power and has sailed to Angola with aid supplies and brought fair trade goods to Finland. The ship is being renovated by Uusi Tuuli (New Wind), a non-profit organisation attempting to sustain the world's best traditions: community cohesion, hospitality, caring, fun, adventure and learning. The main objective of the organisation is to work as an ideological coalition to promote international solidarity, fair international economic arrangements, peace and mutual understanding between people and nations. In order to promote these themes, the organisation has help turn the Estelle, owned by Eestaas Ltd, into a navigable, seaworthy sailing ship that is used for promoting fair trade and transporting humanitarian aid from Europe to developing countries, and fair trade goods from developing countries to Europe. More information in www.estelle.fi. W: Renovating the ship, building and running the exhibitions on the ship and possibly fix bikes that are rented out by Uusi Tuuli. Estelle has a yearlong break from sailing so it won’t leave the harbour. The work is physical and participants should be able to take their own initiative. Not suitable for children or wheelchairs. A: Very basic, sleeping on mattresses in the hold of the ship
FI-KVT 3.01 FOOD NOT BOMBS, Helsinki 20/07 – 31/07 10-12 vols PEACE, SOCI Food Not Bombs (FNB) is an international grassroots anti-military movement whose aim is to promote disarmament and social justice. One of the main activities of Helsinki's FNB group is to cook and serve meals on the streets and market places in Helsinki. Food is donated by local shopkeepers. The volunteers will also eat donated food during the camp. The food will be vegan and/or vegetarian. Travelling will mostly be by bicycle and travel distances are 5-30 kilometres per day. This workcamp is part of a united, worldwide "No more war!" Action to commemorate SCI's 90th Birthday. This action/campaign wants to promote voluntary peace service as an alternative to military service. W: Volunteers will take part in six food serving happenings. Work will be cooking and serving the meals and cleaning up after. Possibly vols can also help promoting and get food donations and other common things . A: Very basic floor accomodation. Sleeping bag needed. Not suitable for wheelchairs or families with young children. S: FNB campaign. X: Extra motivation letter needed. More info: www.foodnotbombs.net FI-KVT 4.01 ÄIJÄLÄ I, near Jyväskylä 01/07 – 17/07 8 vols DISA, AGRI, RENO Äijälä Farm is situated near Jyväskylä in Central Finland. It has a charming old farmhouse which has been renovated to be a home for disabled people. The community wants to encourage the integration of disabled and so-called healthy people. Äijälä has been hosting KVT workcamps since 1980. W: Organic gardening, planting trees and plants, hay-making for the sheep, chopping firewood and cleaning up the forest. All work will be done with disabled people. A: Basic, sleeping bag advisable but not obligatory. S: Life as a disabled in Finland, organic farming, ecological lifestyle, cane and clay building. X: Disabled, 30+ vols and families are welcome.
FI-KVT 4.02 ÄIJÄLÄ II 30/08 – 15/09 8 vols DISA, AGRI, RENO Äijälä Farm is situated near Jyväskylä in Central Finland. It has a charming old farmhouse which has been renovated to be a home for disabled people. The community wants to encourage the integration of disabled and so-called healthy people. Äijälä has been hosting KVT workcamps since 1980. W: Basic renovating of the garden, planting and building playground. Harvesting vegetables and storing them in the cellar. Work is physical. A: Basic inside accom. Sleeping bag advisable but not obligatory.
FI-KVT 6.01 KEURUU ECOVILLAGE, Keuruu 05/09 – 18/09 12 vols ENV, AGRI, RENO Keuruun Ekokylä (Ecovillage of Keuruu) is located in Central Finland about 65 km west from Jyväskylä. Purpose of the village is to pursue a sustainable lifestyle, preserve original plant and animal species, grow organic food and to cherish the diversity of nature. At the moment there are about 25 inhabitants living in the village which is in the middle of beautiful, pure countryside! W: Construction, renovation and garden work that includes harvesting, preserving, fixing the garden for the winter, picking berries, chopping firewood, working in the kitchen and cleaning up.. A: Indoors (2-4 persons per room). There are kitchen, living room, sauna and shower. S: Philosophy of the Ecovillage X: Not suitable for wheelchairs. Food that the vols will be eating in the village is vegetarian
FI-KVT 9.01 NIEMISKYLÄ (near Kuhmo) 20/06-04/07 6-7 vols ENVI, CONS, MANU Nieminen is a village located in municipality of Oulu near the Russian border. There are about 100 inhabitants living in this peaceful village where nature has a big role in everyday life. The local village association, Niemisen Kyläyhdistys ry, has done a lot of work to keep their village alive by renovating old common buildings for villagers to use. Making a tar-burning pit and painting old houses with red ochre are few examples of old local culture. The camp takes place in a beautiful, pure enviroment with lakes and forests where you can enjoy the northern summer and nightless nights! W: Painting with red ochre, building a tar information centre and possibly build a tar grave pit and learn how to burn tar. Work is physical but the camp is also suitable for families with children. Not accessible for wheelchairs. A: Vols will stay either in holiday cabin or outdoors in a big group tent. In the cabin there is kitchen, inside and outside toilets. The sauna is located beside the lake and will be used for washing (Finnish way of taking a shower!). S: Tar-burning as a source of livelihood in Kuhmo from 1850 to1950, about tar paints in outdoor painting and wilderness areas in Kuhmo.
FI-KVT 9.02 AURA, near Turku 04/07 – 17/07 6 vols CONS, RENO, SOCI Aura is a municipality near Turku in South-West Finland. Auras most visible marking is the river called Aurajoki which floats through the beautiful countryside area. The camp is hosted by the village association of Aura. The association works as a link between the municipality and the inhabitants of the area by spreading information and organising different kinds of events to activate local people. W: Idea is to continue working with the village house. Last year the camp repaired the roof and this year the camp will help to renew the floor. Work will also include fixing windows and doors. A: Very basic. On the floor of the local school. X: Not recommended for families with children under age 10.
