TYÖLEIRIT SUOMESSA

KVT järjestää Suomessa yhteistyökumppaneidensa kanssa vuosittain 15-20 kansainvälistä työleiriä. Leireistä valtaosa on kesällä, mutta mikään ei estä järjestämästä ikimuistoista talvileiriä! Tehtävän työn tulee olla yleishyödyllistä; työleiriä ei voi järjestää yhden ihmisen edun tai kaupallisten tavoitteiden edistämiseksi. Vapaaehtoisilla ei myöskään voi korvata palkattua työvoimaa. Leiri-isäntien ohella avainasemassa työleirien onnistumisessa ovat leirinvetäjät. Heidän tehtävänään on yleisen koordinoinnin ohella pitää esimerkiksi huolta siitä, että kommunikointi leiriläisten ja leiri-isännän välillä sujuu mutkattomasti. Leirinvetäjät huolehtivat vapaa - ajanohjelman suunnittelusta ja järjestämisestä. Leirinvetäjänä toimiminen tarjoaakin erittäin antoisan tavan kansainvälistyä kotimaassa. Leirisuunnittelu kannattaa aloittaa hyvissä ajoin, mieluiten jo leiriä edeltävänä syksynä. Jos haluat olla mukana Suomen leirien valmistelussa muutenkin kuin leiri-isäntänä tai leirinvetäjänä, olet erittäin tervetullut mukaan KVT:n leirikoordinaatioryhmän eli koordiksen toimintaan!


Työleirit 2011

 

FI-KVT 1.1 WORLD VILLAGE FESTIVAL, Helsinki

18/5 – 31/05 10 vols

World village is an annual festival which supports multiculturalism, international solidarity and development co-operation through music and exhibitions.

The event is organized by KEPA (Service Centre for Development Cooperation in Finland).

W: Firstly, vols will work for three days in a reception centre for asylum seekers. Vols will organise a cultural workshop and work at the centre together with the inhabitants. After that vols will help to set up the festival area including building and taking down tents, setting up stalls, decorating the festival area, etc. More info about the festival www.maailmakylassa.net.

A: Vols will probably stay on a small island in an old house which is maintained by a small ecological association. The accommodation is simple, there's no running water or showers. Vols can use a sauna building for washing.

X: It is not possible to accept disabled or participants with children.



FI-KVT 9.1 KOROINEN/LIVONSAARI PERMACULTURE CAMP (MIX), Turku region

16/5 - 31/5 6 - 10 vols

Koroinen is a center for promoting the use of natural materials just 3 km from the city center of Turku, located in a historical, pristine spot by the Aura river. Livonsaari is an ecovillage 40 km from the city of Turku, with 20 inhabitants.

W: For the first week the volunteers will work at Koroinen, helping with starting a permaculture garden and other maintenance work at the site. The second week is spent in Livonsaari ecovillage, helping with spring time agricultural work and maintenance on the common grounds.

A: In Koroinen shared dorm - type accomodation indoors, with shower and sauna. In Livonsaari very basic accomodation in a yurt and possibility to use sauna for washing. The nights can be chilly so a warm sleeping bag is required.

FI-KVT 1.2 SIUNTIO RECEPTION CENTER (MIX), Helsinki region

SOCI

The reception center of Siuntio was founded in Harjulinna in spring 2009. Its’ purpose is to offer a place for under aged asylum seekers who come to Finland without their families. There are approximately 30 - 40 children living in the reception center and a few families too.

The reception center is in a very idyllic countryside place and located about 40 kilometers west from Helsinki. Even though the most common services are quite far, you can find for example a spa quite nearby in the middle of the Finnish nature!

W: Spending time with the children in the reception center, organizing activities like games or excursions in groups. Outdoor work and gardening.

A: Very basic floor accommodation.

S: About minor asylum seekers and local culture of Siuntio.

X: Not accessible for families or people with wheelchairs. Previous experience about organizing activities to teen aged children could be helpful but is not obligatory.

 

FI-KVT 10.1 WESTERGÅRD ECOLOGICAL COMMUNITY, Tammisaari

Westergård is a small ecological community close to the town of Tammisaari. The ideology of the place is to live in harmony with nature. Meditation and spiritual growth are important for the inhabitants. There is a bed and breakfast - service and courses are offered in tantra, shindomassage and Family Constellation - therapy. There are Icelandic horses and goats and lots of beautiful tracks for riding. Some of the food is grown in their organic vegetable garden. More info: www.awarenesstherapy.net

W: The volunteers will help to paint the old main building using traditional methods. They can help with the vegetable garden and taking care of the animals. Also the vols can help with gathering herbs or picking berries. As a part of KVT's World Volunteering project, the volunteers will organise a workshop on anti-racism, global justice or human rights for local people.

A: Indoors accomodation in guest rooms and in a caravan.

S: Organic gardening, bodywork, meditation, by the wishes of the vols.


 

FI-KVT 3.1 FOOD NOT BOMBS, Helsinki

4/7 – 15/7 10-12 vols

Food Not Bombs (FNB) is an international grassroots anti-military movement whose aim is to promote disarmament and social justice. One of the main activities of Helsinki's FNB group is to cook and serve meals on the streets and market places in Helsinki. Food is donated by local shopkeepers. The volunteers will also eat donated food during the camp. The food will be vegan and/or vegetarian. Travelling will mostly be by bicycle and travel distances are 5-30 kilometres per day.

W: Volunteers will take part in six food serving happenings. Work will be cooking and serving the meals and cleaning up after. Possibly vols can also help promoting and get food donations and other common things .

A: Very basic floor accomodation. Sleeping bag needed. Not suitable for wheelchairs or families with young children.

S: FNB campaign.

FI-KVT 6.1 Rihu, Heinola

Rihu is a biodynamic farm surrounded by forests and lakes 30km from Heinola in Southern Finland. Rihu Association organises courses on biodynamic farming, environment and herbal medicine as well as camps for school children. There are also domestic animals on the farm. More info: www.rihu.net

W: Agricultural work, gardening, landscaping and renovating. Note: Expect hard outdoor work!

A: Indoors accomodation, possibility to shower

FI-KVT 4.1 ÄIJÄLÄ, near Jyväskylä

07/07 – 23/07

8 vols

Äijälä Farm is situated near Jyväskylä in Central Finland. It has a charming old farmhouse which has been renovated to be a home for disabled people. The community wants to encourage the integration of disabled and so-called healthy people. Äijälä has been hosting KVT workcamps since 1980.

W: Organic gardening, planting trees and plants, hay-making for the sheep, chopping firewood and cleaning up the forest. All work will be done together with disabled people.

A: Basic, sleeping bag advisable but not obligatory.

S: Life as a disabled in Finland, organic farming, ecological lifestyle, cane and clay building.

X: Disabled, 30+ vols and families are welcome.

FI-KVT 9.2 KUUSKAJASKARI ISLAND (MIX), near Rauma

Kuuskajaskari Island is located near Rauma in the archipelago of the West Coast. Kuuskajaskari is specialized in organizing different kind of meetings (festivity, leisure) and summer camps for adults and children with special needs, business-, school- and pensioner groups. The area is very rugged and beautiful, and will in the future become a National Park. The UNESCO world heritage site of Old Rauma town is also nearby. More info: www.rauma.fi

W: The vols will help with maintenance work, cleaning pathways and building camp fire places. There is also a library, which needs organizing and the vols can also help taking care about the farm animals, goats and chickens.

A: Indoors dorm type accommodation with showers. Families have a possibility for separate lodging.

X: Children welcome! For leisure activities there are football and volleyball fields, a jogging trail and several orienteering tracks around the island.


 

FI-KVT 9.3. HUMMOVAARA, Savonlinna region

Hummovaara is small community in Eastern Finland. The village association of Hummovaara is the camp host. The village association helps with preserving the local cultural heritage and the livelyhood of the countryside. The village is remote, but naturally beautiful with lakes and forests. The nearest bigger city is Savonlinna 60 km away. More info: www.hummovaara.net

W: The vols will help with construction and maintenance work at the village hall (old school building), like renovating an outbuilding and building a fence as well as taking care of the environment of the village hall.

A: Indoors shared rooms. There is a kitchen, internet connection, and a pool table. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

FI-KVT 6.2 KEURUU ECOVILLAGE, Keuruu

Keuruun Ekokylä (Ecovillage of Keuruu) is located in Central Finland about 75 km west from Jyväskylä. Purpose of the village is to pursue a sustainable lifestyle, preserve original plant and animal species, grow organic food and to cherish the diversity of nature. At the moment there are about 25 inhabitants living in the village which is in the middle of beautiful, pure countryside! More info: www.keuruunekokyla.fi

W: Work is mostly construction and renovation. There is also chopping firewood, garden work that includes harvesting, preserving, fixing the garden for the winter, picking berries, working in the kitchen and cleaning up...

A: Indoors (2-4 persons per room). There are kitchen, living room, sauna and shower.

S: Philosophy of the Ecovillage

X: Not suitable for wheelchairs. Age 24+. Food that the vols will be eating in the village is vegetarian. Free time activities: sports, sauna, swimming
